I started this some day’s ago, when I was watching a movie with my kids and found myself without anything to knit. This variegated sock yarn was close by, and it didn’t look half bad in the relative darkness of the living room.
When my son insisted on turning off the lights completely, I stopped knitting. I can knit without looking, but it’s a bit harder with twisted rib and small needles so I decided to watch the film without knitting for once. That felt strange, I can tell you.
In full daylight, the yarn looks much worse than I thought it would be. The blues are OK, but the yellow is really bad.
So what do you think? How bad is it on a scale from one to ten (ten being the worst)?
Should I continue or just recycle it? I’m leaning towards ripping and recycling…

You could use the yarn together with a solid colour such as grey or mustard to make some kind of pattern. A pattern like this perhaps. http://exercisebeforeknitting.com/culture-socks/

I’ve seen worse (though that’s not my favourite yellow either), but really, if you’re not enjoying it, do find something you enjoy more.
Er þetta ekki afskaplega þjóðleg litasamsetning? Hafið, fjöllin, sinan og ísinn… þetta er það sem blasir við þegar horft er yfir íslenskt landslag frá hausti fram á vor (ef ekki er snjór yfir öllu).
Maður rekur ekki upp. Klárar og gefur í rauða krossinn. Það er allt í lagi með þann gula. Þú gætir haft hæl og tá með lit sem dempar þann gula.
Hvað segir þú um að halda áfram en nota annað garn í rendur eða munstur til þess að brjóta upp gubb litinn?

I have to agree about the colors – they’re not my favorites, either, at least not together. Not terrible for hardly-seen socks, though, but perhaps you could use the yarn in a different project carried with another yarn (a solid color mohair, perhaps?) that would tone things down….
I’ve definitely seen much worse colors in handknitted socks, so I would not point and laugh at these.
Now, watching a movie with idle hands is a complete nightmare, in my books. I’m impressed by your endurance in that respect.
As for the colourway, I think it’s wonderful and funky and most certainly think you should continue. And let’s face it, we don’t see our socks all that much, they are wrapped up in shoes and boots most of the time, and why not make them for your son who insisted on no lights during the movie…
